A worst blow to the family of slain journalist Arshad Sharif

In an unexpected turn of events, a local court in the federal capitalissued non-bailable arrest warrants for Samia Arshad, the widow of the latesenior journalist Arshad Sharif. Arshad Sharif, a prominent journalist andformer anchor for ARY News, met a tragic end in Nairobi, Kenya, on October23 while living in self-imposed exile.

The arrest warrants were authorized by Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah dueto the failure of Samia Arshad and 18 others to appear as witnesses in theArshad Sharif murder case.

Among the witnesses listed in the FIR filed on behalf of the stateinvestigating the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif are ArshadSharif’s wife, son, producer Ali Usman, and 16 others. It’s noteworthy thatthe family of the deceased journalist has distanced themselves from thisFIR, asserting that it was registered without their request, and they havealready rejected it.

The situation surrounding the murder case has also drawn attention fromKenyan investigative journalist Brian Obuya, who has expressed concernsregarding the prolonged delay in obtaining findings from the investigationinto Arshad Sharif’s murder.
