The business community in Karachi is planning a sit-in protest against theescalating inflation, scheduled for September 8, as reported by ARY News onWednesday. A consultative session involving the business community wasconvened, during which traders unanimously decided to initiate a protestmovement to address the issue of rising prices.
Javed Shams, the President of Anjuman-e-Tajran Karachi, confirmed that alltraders from Karachi would assemble in Liaquatabad on September 8,following Friday prayers, to participate in the sit-in demonstration. Thisevent aims to draw attention to the challenges posed by inflation.
Meanwhile, a local trader named Abdur Rauf Ibrahim expressed appreciationfor Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir’s announcement regardinga crackdown on hoarders and smugglers. This move signifies the support foraddressing economic issues.
On another front, business leader Jameel Pracha indicated that thecommunity’s upcoming protest will take place at the Governor House,emphasizing the importance of their grievances.
It is worth noting that Pakistani traders had previously staged anationwide strike in protest of the soaring cost of living. Factors such asincreased fuel and utility bills, along with the record depreciation of therupee against the dollar, have led to widespread discontent among thepublic. During this protest, businesses were closed, and protestersresorted to burning tires on roads to voice their frustration.
Earlier in the day, Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar pledged to prioritizeaddressing the issues faced by Karachi traders. This commitment was madeduring a meeting with Governor Sindh, Kamran Khan Tessori. The governorprovided a comprehensive briefing on administrative matters and the overalllaw and order situation in the province, presenting recommendations fromthe Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the city’s tradersregarding power tariffs.
PM Kakar expressed gratitude to the governor Sindh and directed relevantauthorities to promptly act on these recommendations and present a report.This signifies a commitment to resolving the challenges faced by theKarachi business community.
