Four soldiers of the Pakistan Army met their martyrdom on Wednesday as alarge group of terrorists, armed with advanced weaponry, launched a brazenattack on two military outposts located near the Afghanistan border in theKalash area of Chitral district. This tragic incident was confirmed by themilitary in an official statement.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed that prior to thisassault, the movement and gathering of these terrorists in the regions ofGawardesh, Pitigal, Barg-e-Matel, and Batash, situated within the Nuristanand Kunar provinces of Afghanistan, had been detected and promptlycommunicated to the interim Afghan government. In response to thisheightened threat, the Pakistani military posts were already operatingunder heightened alertness.
In a display of remarkable bravery, the valiant soldiers valiantlydefended their positions, successfully repelling the attacks and causingsignificant losses to the terrorists. During the exchange of gunfire, adevastating toll was exacted on the terrorists, with 12 of them meetingtheir demise, while many others sustained critical injuries, as outlined inthe statement.
Nevertheless, amid the intense firefight, four courageous soldiers, whohad fought gallantly, made the ultimate sacrifice and embraced martyrdom.The ISPR emphasized that ongoing efforts to clear the area of any remainingterrorists were underway, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment toeradicate the scourge of terrorism.
The statement further underscored the determination of Pakistan’s securityforces to combat terrorism and lauded the steadfast support of the peopleof Chitral in preventing terrorists from disturbing the peace of theregion. It also called upon the interim Afghan government to fulfill itsresponsibilities in preventing the use of Afghan soil for acts of terrorismagainst Pakistan, reinforcing the importance of cooperation in maintainingregional security.
