FIA gets technological upgrades to counter visa fraud

In Karachi, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration hasimplemented modern Australian technology at Jinnah International Airport,as reported by ARY News on Wednesday. Their primary objective is to enhanceborder security and counter the use of counterfeit visas in the context ofhuman trafficking. This technological upgrade equips the FIA immigrationdepartment with cutting-edge tools.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has generously provided the FIAImmigration with 17 pieces of advanced equipment, including Magnifiers,Ultraviolet Radiation Lights, and Security Laminate Verifiers. These toolsare instrumental in the fight against counterfeit passports and visas,ensuring a more stringent screening process for travelers. This move aimsto fortify airport security significantly.

Muhammad Rashid Bhatti, the Assistant Director of FIA Immigration,expressed deep appreciation for the valuable equipment received. Heacknowledged that these technological advancements would play a pivotalrole in bolstering border security and combating illegal activities at theairport.

Prior to this initiative, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA)made a decision to install Electronic gates (E-gates) at airportsthroughout the country. The first phase of the E-gate project has beenlaunched in three major international airports: Islamabad, Allama Iqbal,and Jinnah International Airport. This project is under the closesupervision of the Aviation Secretary and the Director-General of the CivilAviation Authority (DGCAA).

Moreover, valuable input has been sought from various nationalinstitutions, including the National Database and Registration Authority(NADRA), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) passports, and FIA immigration,concerning the E-gate project. Following board approval, tenders will besolicited for the implementation of the E-gate project, marking asignificant step forward in enhancing airport security across Pakistan.
