Pakistan gets strong warning from International Organization

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has issued a sternwarning to Pakistan regarding its membership status due to a persistentfailure to pay its annual subscription fee. Despite numerous reminders,Pakistan has not fulfilled its obligation to clear the dues for the year2022.

This final notice from ISO comes after various attempts to communicate theurgency of the matter to Pakistan.

The gravity of the situation was conveyed to Pakistan through the UnitedNations office and other international entities, emphasizing that themembership of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA)would face suspension if the outstanding annual subscription fee for 2022remained unpaid.

This warning, if unheeded, will lead to the loss of PSQCA’s voting rightswithin ISO and also restrict their access to valuable publications anddocuments offered by the organization.

Notably, in 2021, Pakistan earned the distinction of being elected as amember of three United Nations (UN) bodies, underlining the internationalcommunity’s appreciation of its constructive contributions to globalforums. These esteemed bodies include the Commission on Crime Preventionand Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW),and the Commission on Population and Development (CPD).
