Journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar murder case verdict in ATC

An anti-terrorism court convened on Tuesday to address the case involvingthe murder of local journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar. During the proceedings,the court approved a seven-day extension of the physical remand for theaccused individuals. These suspects, who were apprehended in connectionwith the case, were presented before the court following the expiration oftheir previous remand period.

The court’s decision to grant this extension followed a request from thepolice, who sought additional time to further question the detainees.

Jan Muhammad Mahar, a senior journalist serving as the Sukkur bureau chieffor a local television network, tragically lost his life on August 13 whenunidentified assailants ambushed him. The attackers, riding a motorcycle,unleashed a hail of bullets at Mahar while he was inside his vehicle,moments after leaving his office at 9:00 am in Sukkur.

To intensify efforts in solving this high-profile murder case, InspectorGeneral Sindh Police took the initiative to establish a specialinvestigative committee. This committee, led by DIG Traffic Tanveer Odho,consists of five seasoned officers, including SSP Sukkur Sanghar Malik, SSPKhairpur Rohail Khoso, SDPO Gambat Nauman Zafar, and SP CTD Sukkur AbdulQayyum.

This expert team has been entrusted with the crucial task of uncovering theintricate details surrounding the incident and ensuring that the culpritsare brought to justice.
