Former PM Shahbaz Sharif suffers a big setback

Shehbaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister and president of the PakistanMuslim League Nawaz (PML-N), along with his son Hamza Shehbaz, have beencalled to appear in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

This summons was issued to them by the accountability court. The casereopened following the Supreme Court’s nullification of the NAB amendment.They are scheduled to appear on November 29th.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had previously reopened thereference against Shehbaz Sharif, and the Supreme Court had struck downamendments to NAB laws. The case involves allegations of financial fraud,impersonation, and forging of the Pakistan Penal Code, as well asviolations of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering laws.

The FIR revealed substantial deposits in bank accounts of low-wageemployees of Ramzan Sugar Mills and Al-Arabia Sugar Mills, as well asaccounts of fictitious companies controlled by the Sharif group, totalingover Rs25 billion from 2008 to 2018.
