A call for the resignation of Inzamam-ul-Haq, the Chief Selector of thePakistan Cricket Board, by former cricketer Basit Ali. The plea forInzamam-ul-Haq’s resignation is a response to allegations made by PCBManaging Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf concerning the poor performance ofthe Pakistani cricket team in the ICC World Cup 2023.
Zaka Ashraf, in an interview, hinted at concerns about business agreementsinvolving cricketers and chief selectors, potentially influenced by amanagement company’s involvement with the team.
Zaka Ashraf expressed the intention of the cricket board to establishlegislation regarding these business agreements, as they might be causingconflicts of interest within the team. He stated that the chief selectorswould be subject to questioning, and appropriate legislation would beformulated.
Basit Ali, appearing on the ARY News program Har Lamha Purjosh, emphasizedthe gravity of the allegations raised by Zaka Ashraf and called forInzamam-ul-Haq’s immediate resignation.
Basit Ali questioned the necessity of meeting with the chief selector whenserious allegations had already been leveled against him, suggesting thatsuch matters should have been handled discreetly before any formal inquiry.
Additionally, former wicket-keeper batter Kamran Akmal highlighted therole of agents in connecting players with business opportunities, but hestressed the importance of adhering to ethical boundaries, and herecommended that the PCB investigate any breaches of these boundaries.
