Tehreek e Labbaik Pakistan gets clean chit

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has recently submitted a reportconcerning the compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Faizabadsit-in case. In this report, the ECP has absolved Tehreek-e-LabbaikPakistan (TLP) of allegations related to engaging in activities detrimentalto the state.

Previously, the ECP had requested the Interior Ministry to investigate theTLP’s involvement in anti-state actions. The resulting report from theInterior Ministry indicated that the TLP had not been engaged in any suchactivities.

The report also examined the sources of funding for the TLP. According tothe Scrutiny Committee’s findings, the party received a relatively smallamount of Rs1.5 million from sources considered prohibited.

However, the ECP’s report argues that this sum is minor and insufficient toclassify Tehreek-e-Labbaik’s funding as foreign.

Furthermore, the report states that there is no concrete evidence tocategorize the TLP as an anti-state organization. Subsequently, the ECPretracted its notice against the TLP and implemented the Supreme Court’sdecision in the Faizabad sit-in case.
