Cipher Case: New developments reported in IHC

On Wednesday, former Prime Minister Pakistan and Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)Chief Imran Khan lodged a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC)challenging his indictment in the cipher case.

The special court had indicted Imran Khan and PTI Vice Chairman ShahMahmood Qureshi in the cipher case on Monday. In his IHC petition, ImranKhan contests the legality of the indictment, deeming it “illegal andunlawful.”

However, Imran’s spokesperson for legal affairs, Naeem Haider Panjutha,asserted that the case was initially scheduled to be heard in the IHC onthe following day but was later removed from the cause list.

The special court’s indictment of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and ViceChairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi took place at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi,presided over by special court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain.

Previously, PTI had submitted a petition to halt the indictment, but thejudge dismissed the petitions, affirming that the hearing was scheduled forthe indictment.

The case revolves around the alleged “misuse” of the contents of adiplomatic cipher cited by ex-Prime Minister Imran as evidence of anattempt to destabilize his government.
