In a meeting held at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Chief of ArmyStaff (COAS) Gen Syed Asim Munir engaged with Ahmad Jawad Rabei, theAmbassador of Palestine to Pakistan. The interaction, as reported by theInter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), revolved around the COAS offeringhis condolences for the loss of Palestinian lives amidst the ongoingconflict in Gaza.
The COAS expressed deep concern over the relentless violence and theindiscriminate killing of innocent civilians carried out by Israeli forcesduring the conflict. He described the constant attacks on civilianpopulations, educational institutions, humanitarian workers, hospitals, andthe forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza as clear violations ofhumanity.
He further emphasized the need for an immediate halt to hostilities, thecreation of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza, the safeguarding of civilians, and adherence to international humanitarian laws. The COAS reiteratedPakistan’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent, viable, and continuous Palestinian state, based on pre-1967 borders, withAl-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
The COAS pointed out that the recent surge of violence in Gaza stems fromprolonged repression, continuous human rights violations, and state-backeddisturbances at Al Aqsa mosque. He underscored the importance of notsimplifying the situation by labeling it as mere terrorism or isolating itas an isolated attack. He believed that doing so would obscure the brutaloppression that has persisted over decades, ultimately leading to thecurrent crisis.
In conclusion, the COAS urged the international community to unite inputting an end to the unfolding human tragedy resulting from thedisproportionate and unlawful use of force by Israeli forces. He called onnations to refrain from encouraging further atrocities that flagrantlyviolate the principles of civility and humane conduct.
