Two separate applications have been submitted to the Islamabad High Court, aiming to reinstate appeals regarding the sentencing of PML-N leader NawazSharif in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases, which were pursued by theNational Accountability Bureau (NAB). These applications have been filed byLawyer Amjad Pervaiz on behalf of Nawaz Sharif.

The Avenfield reference case resulted in a sentence being pronounced inNawaz Sharif’s absence on July 6, 2018. According to the petition, at thattime, the petitioner’s wife was undergoing medical treatment in London andwas on a ventilator. A request for a delay in the judgment was made, but itwas not granted.

The application also notes that despite the sentence being announced in hisabsence, Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan, faced imprisonment, and filedappeals against the verdict.

While the sentences of co-accused individuals Maryam Nawaz and Capt Safdarwere annulled, Nawaz Sharif’s appeal was dismissed due to hisnon-appearance in court. The court indicated that the appeal could be filedagain when he either surrendered or was apprehended, acknowledging NawazSharif’s inability to be present due to his poor health.

The petition emphasizes that Nawaz Sharif did not misuse his bail facilityand mentions that although he has not fully recovered, he made the decisionto return home.
