Sanam Javed Khan, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist, faced a secondarrest shortly after her release from Kot Lakhpat Jail in connection withthe May 9 riots. The PTI activist had been accused of contributing to thelaw-and-order disturbance and attacking Jinnah House following the arrestof PTI’s leader, Imran Khan, on May 9. She was rearrested outside theprison, this time in a different case.
Earlier in the day, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had issued a releaseorder for Sanam Javed Khan. These release orders were granted following theapproval of surety bonds related to her case, specifically the May 9 riotscase in which she had previously been granted bail.
The events of May 9 saw violent clashes erupting throughout Pakistan afterthe arrest of former Prime Minister and PTI chief, Imran Khan, at theIslamabad High Court. Protests unfolded in various cities, both major andremote, with PTI party workers expressing their discontent over theirleader’s arrest.
Regions such as Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabadcalled upon the armed forces to ensure law and order during these protests.
