The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has confirmed that there is noimpending threat to any coastal areas in Pakistan from an anticipatedtropical storm in the Arabian Sea.
The situation has evolved from an area of low atmospheric pressure into atropical depression, with its center situated in the south-central regionof the Arabian Sea. There is a likelihood of it intensifying into afull-fledged tropical storm in the next 48 hours.
The PMD has clarified that the low-pressure system is currently located ata distance of 1,810 kilometers from Karachi and 1,750 kilometers fromGwadar, in the Arabian Sea. Initial assessments indicate that the tropicaldepression is anticipated to track towards Oman and Yemen, posing noimmediate threat to Pakistan’s coastal regions.
Meanwhile, authorities in Oman have stated that the storm is expected todirectly impact the Dhofar and Al-Wusta Governorates around noon on Sunday,October 22. There is a possibility that the storm’s center will passbetween the Dhofar Governorate in Oman and the Al-Mahra Governorate inYemen between midnight on Monday and Tuesday morning.
Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued warnings about high tidesalong the coasts of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar governorates,with maximum wave heights projected to reach between 2.5 and 4.5 meters.
