Former PM Imran Khan faces a big setback

In Islamabad, a written statement from the key witness, former PrimeMinister and Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan,has surfaced in the Cipher case.

The former Prime Minister’s ex-Principal Secretary, Azam Khan, revealed inthe written statement that the Chairman of PTI had devised a targeted planagainst the military to protect political objectives and motion ofno-confidence.

Azam Khan further explained that Cipher is directed by the Speaker of theNational Assembly, and it is sent back to the same channel.

On March 8, the Foreign Secretary received a phone call regarding Cipher.The call was about sending a copy to the Prime Minister’s office. TheForeign Secretary mentioned that a copy should be sent to the PrimeMinister’s office on March 9.

According to the central witness, Imran Khan provided his opinion on Saifon March 9. PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi had already informed theChairman of PTI about this matter.

In his written response, Azam Khan mentioned that the former Prime Ministerhad urged the institutions to make an impactful statement against thisissue.

Former Prime Minister, who is currently in Adiala Jail, has requested towithdraw the Cipher case against him due to the exceptional status underArticle 248. This request was made in Islamabad High Court. The petitionercontended that the Official Secrets Act, Section 5, should not be appliedto the case.

The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court issued a written order,comprising two pages, stating that the Official Secrets Act, Section 5,does not apply. The order also mentioned that the former Prime Minister isexempted under Article 248, and he has also requested to halt the trial inthe Cipher case.
