Zainab Abbas breaks silence over India fiasco

After Pakistani sports presenter Zainab Abbas departed from India inresponse to a complaint made by an Indian lawyer regarding her previous”anti-Hindu” statements, she has now issued an apology for those remarks.

Abbas, who was in India as part of her role as a presenter for the ongoingICC Men’s World Cup 2023, left the country on October 9, citing “personalreasons” according to the international cricket body.

In a statement posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Zainab expressedher gratitude for the opportunities to travel and present the sport sheloves, and this particular assignment held special significance for her.

Reflecting on her time in India, Abbas noted that her daily interactionswere warm, friendly, and as she had anticipated, filled with a sense offamiliarity. She clarified that she had not been asked to leave nordeported from the country.

However, she also mentioned feeling “intimidated and scared” due to theunfolding online reaction, despite there being no immediate threat to hersafety.

Concerns from her family and friends on both sides of the border promptedher decision to take some time and space for reflection on the situation.
