Israel gets another jolt from UN

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made a fervent appeal onThursday for the allowance of humanitarian aid into the conflict-riddenGaza Strip.

This request comes as the war in Gaza enters its sixth day, marked byIsrael’s imposition of a comprehensive blockade on the besieged region, which includes restrictions on the entry of essential supplies such as foodand fuel.

Guterres conveyed his message on X, previously known as Twitter, emphasizing the urgent need for the unimpeded flow of critical life-savingprovisions, which encompass items like fuel, food, and water, into Gaza.

This plea from the UN chief comes shortly after Israel’s imposition of acomplete blockade on the area. Israeli airstrikes have been launched inretaliation for a Hamas attack that breached the border fence over theweekend, resulting in the loss of 1,200 lives, injuries to over 2,700individuals, and the taking of hostages in Israel.

In the meantime, the casualty count in Gaza has surged to 1,200 fatalities, with approximately 5,600 people wounded, as reported by Palestinian media.

Israel has declared its intent to completely dismantle Hamas, and thisdevelopment coincides with the expected visit of US Secretary of StateAntony Blinken, underscoring Washington’s support for Israel in a conflictthat has tragically led to a rapidly increasing death toll.
