Former captain Shahid Afridi has reacted to Pakistan’s record-breakingvictory against Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup. In the eighth match of theWorld Cup on Tuesday, Pakistan achieved the biggest target in World Cuphistory against Sri Lanka, thanks to brilliant centuries by AbdullahShafique and Mohammad Rizwan.
Pakistan successfully chased down Sri Lanka’s target of 345 runs with 4wickets to spare in the 49th over. Abdullah Shafique scored 113 runs, whileMohammad Rizwan made 131 runs before being dismissed. Chasing a target of345 runs is the largest successful chase in the history of the World Cup byany team.
Previously, in the 2011 World Cup, Ireland successfully chased a target of329 runs against England. Shahid Afridi took to social media to comment onPakistan’s record-breaking win, saying, “Achieving the biggest target inWorld Cup history against Sri Lanka, then the best innings by Abdullah andRizwan in their careers, plus Hasan Ali’s excellent bowling in the victory.
But improvement is needed in bowling, especially by the young bowlers.” Itshould be noted that Pakistan’s win against Sri Lanka in the World Cup hasnow given them an 8-0 score against Sri Lanka in Cricket World Cup matches.
