The Ministry of Interior has issued a directive to all provinces regardingthe apprehension of Afghan migrants. According to reports, the Ministry ofInterior, along with all Chief Secretaries of provinces, has written aletter stating that registered Afghan migrants residing in Pakistan shouldbe spared from arrests.
In the letter, it is emphasized that individuals holding Proof ofRegistration (PoR) and Afghan Citizenship Cards should not be detained. Therelevant authorities are instructed to ensure that Afghan nationals are notapprehended or harassed, and all provinces are urged to take necessarymeasures in this matter.
On the other hand, the Balochistan Home Department has legally instructedthe local police and administration not to harass or intimidate Afghanmigrants who are legally residing in the province.
In a communication sent to police officials and district administration, itis clarified that registered Afghan migrants holding PoR and AfghanCitizenship Cards have the right to return to their home countryvoluntarily and peacefully, without any involvement in criminal or unlawfulactivities.
Furthermore, it is emphasized in the communication that registered Afghanmigrants should not be unnecessarily troubled, harassed, or arrested. Anyunwarranted harassment of legally residing Afghan migrants can negativelyimpact Pakistan’s hospitality and the goodwill it has shown over the pastfour decades.
