On Monday, the BCCI, for the first time, addressed Gill’s condition,releasing a statement indicating that the 24-year-old did not travel withthe team to Delhi, where India is scheduled to play Afghanistan onWednesday.

Following a drop in his platelet count, he was hospitalized in Chennai butwas subsequently released on Monday evening. Despite this, Gill remains adoubtful starter for the marquee World Cup clash against Pakistan inAhmedabad on October 14.

In India’s victory over Australia, Shubman Gill was replaced by IshanKishan, who is likely to once again open alongside Rohit againstAfghanistan in New Delhi on Wednesday.
