IMF makes another demand from Pakistan government

In its efforts to enhance the economic conditions, the InternationalMonetary Fund (IMF) urged Pakistan’s government to consider privatizingUtility Stores and state-owned entities, as reported by ARY News.

The IMF’s recommendations include the transfer of Utility Stores to theprivate sector, aiming to boost efficiency and profitability. Furthermore,the IMF proposed augmenting the budget allocated to the Benazir IncomeSupport Programme (BISP) to provide more financial assistance to vulnerablesegments of the population.

The IMF expressed concern that government ownership of enterprises isdetrimental to the economy in the current economic climate and advisedreforms in this area. The Ministry of Industries also put forth a proposalto privatize Utility Stores nationwide.

However, the caretaker government has yet to respond to the IMF’ssuggestions and proposals. Additionally, discussions are ongoing regardingthe privatization of Utility Stores and the budget increase for the BISPprogram, while the Ministry of Industries and Production has not reached adecision regarding Utility Stores.
