Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the establishment of aPalestinian state in Israel is the “most reliable” solution for peace, andpeace cannot be achieved solely through conflict. Lavrov made these remarksduring a news conference with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed AboulGheit on Monday, who visited Russia after Hamas, the Palestinian groupruling Gaza, made a visit.
Lavrov emphasized that the creation of a Palestinian state that coexistswith Israel is the most trustworthy path to resolving the long-standingconflict.
He also stated that they cannot agree with those who believe that securitycan only be assured through war against terrorism. Lavrov stressed thatthere should be no further delay in resolving the Palestinian issue, whichposes serious questions about America’s and its allies’ stance on theIsrael-Palestine conflict. He called for an immediate demand for aceasefire from the United States and its allies, instead of advocating forIsrael to take action.
