London: Britain has taken a stance on the conflict between Canada andIndia, following in the footsteps of the United States by emphasizingrespect for Canada’s autonomy.
According to international media reports, on Friday, Britain reiterated itsposition on the Canada-India dispute, stating that all countries shouldrespect autonomy and the rule of law.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke with Canadian Prime MinisterJustin Trudeau over the phone, after which a government spokesperson statedthat the Prime Minister reaffirmed Britain’s position that all countriesshould respect autonomy and the rule of law, including the ViennaConvention on diplomatic relations with other countries.
It is clear that tensions between India and Canada escalated last monthwhen Canada stated it was seriously investigating the involvement of Indiangovernment agents in the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep SinghNijjar in British Columbia in June.
