ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General Manoj Katiyar, General OfficerCommanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Western Command, has issued astern warning to Pakistan, stating that any provocation or misadventurewill be met with a response “far stronger than before.”
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Exercise Poorvi Prahar inRajasthan, the senior commander directly linked the ongoing large-scalemanoeuvres to deterrence against Pakistan. He emphasised that the drillswere specifically designed to deliver a decisive and overwhelmingcounter-stroke.
“The preparations you are witnessing are precisely for that purpose,” LtGen Katiyar said, referring to the multi-domain exercise involvingthousands of troops, armour, artillery and air assets close to theinternational border.
Indian military officials described the exercise as a demonstration ofrapid mobilisation and integrated battle capabilities, with particularfocus on offensive operations across varied terrain.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions following recent cross-borderincidents and mutual accusations of ceasefire violations along the Line ofControl.
Defence analysts view the remarks as part of New Delhi’s evolving doctrineof proactive operations and swift punitive response, moving away from theearlier emphasis on strategic restraint.
Pakistan’s military leadership has not yet issued an official response, though sources indicate close monitoring of the Indian exercise and theaccompanying rhetoric.
The Western Command, responsible for the entire frontier with Pakistan fromLakhanpur to Kutch, has significantly enhanced its strike corpscapabilities in recent years.
