ISLAMABAD: The Bangladesh Air Force has requested Pakistan to provideadvanced training to its pilots and technical personnel, highly placeddefence sources disclosed on Friday.
Both countries have reached an agreement in principle under whichexperienced Pakistani instructors will conduct specialised courses forBangladeshi aircrew in fighter conversion, aerial tactics, and aircraftmaintenance disciplines.
The request reflects growing confidence in the operational proficiency ofthe Pakistan Air Force, particularly its expertise in Chinese-origin combatplatforms and Western systems still in Bangladesh’s inventory.
Sources said the training programme will initially focus on fighter lead-intraining, advanced aerial combat manoeuvres, and integrated maintenanceprocedures for multi-role aircraft.
Discussions were held during recent high-level exchanges between the airforces, with logistical and curriculum details being finalised throughdiplomatic and military channels.
The development marks a significant step in restoring defence cooperationbetween the two nations after decades of limited interaction following the1971 separation.
Bangladesh currently operates a mix of Chinese F-7 and Russian MiG-29fighters while gradually inducting newer platforms, making Pakistan’sextensive experience in similar systems particularly valuable.
Official circles in Islamabad view the accord as part of broader efforts todeepen strategic partnerships across the Muslim world through professionalmilitary exchanges.
Neither air force has issued a formal statement, but sources confirmed thata memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed in the coming months.
The agreement is likely to enhance interoperability and foster greatertrust between the armed forces of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
