Pakistan Activates Key Artillery Range Amid Rising Tensions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Armed Forces have officially activated theMuzaffargarh Artillery Range for live-fire exercises from 24 to 30November, military sources confirmed on Wednesday. The drills will beconducted daily between 0300 hours and 1200 hours, ensuring maximumtraining intensity across multiple artillery units.

A NOTAM issued by the Civil Aviation Authority has declared the airspaceover the range closed from ground level to Flight Level 150 throughout theseven-day period. All civilian and commercial flights have been rerouted tomaintain safety and operational security during the exercises.

The activation comes at a time of persistent strain in Pakistan-Indiarelations, with defence analysts interpreting the large-scale firingpractice as a deliberate recalibration of conventional deterrence. Thetiming and scope underscore Islamabad’s resolve to maintain credibleresponse options.

Military officials described the exercise as part of routine annualtraining, yet the extended duration and complete airspace restriction marka departure from previous schedules. Similar activations in border-adjacentranges have historically coincided with periods of heightened strategicsignalling.

The Muzaffargarh range, located in southern Punjab, is one of the largestdedicated artillery impact areas in the country and allows simultaneousfiring of long-range guns and rockets. Defence circles view the exercise asreinforcement of Pakistan’s red lines amid regional tensions.
