ISLAMABAD: The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has categoricallyrejected the United Nations Security Council resolution adopted for Gaza,including the proposed deployment of an international protection force,declaring that the measure fails to address the fundamental political andhumanitarian rights of the Palestinian people.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, Hamas described theresolution as an attempt to impose “international guardianship” over Gaza,a step it said would be firmly opposed by the Palestinian population andall factions engaged in resistance. The group argued that the text of theresolution falls far short of meeting legitimate Palestinian demands for anend to the Israeli blockade, full withdrawal of occupation forces, andrecognition of the right to self-determination.
Hamas expressed particular alarm over provisions that could grant theinternational force authority to conduct operations inside Gaza, includingthe potential disarmament of resistance groups. Such powers, the statementwarned, would render the force partisan rather than neutral and effectivelytransform it into an instrument serving Israel’s occupation objectives. Themovement insisted that any international presence must respect Palestiniansovereignty and focus exclusively on humanitarian assistance andreconstruction without interfering in internal security arrangements.
Analysts view Hamas’s swift and uncompromising rejection as a significantsetback for diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilising Gaza following morethan a year of devastating conflict. The resolution, sponsored by severalArab and European states, had been presented as a compromise to secure animmediate ceasefire and prevent further escalation. However, by dismissingit outright, Hamas has signalled that it will not accept any arrangementperceived as undermining armed resistance or legitimising continued Israelicontrol.
