Pakistan, China Vow Deeper Counter Terrorism Ties in a High Level Meeting

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a significantmeeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong on Monday, underscoring theunbreakable strategic partnership between Pakistan and China whilecommitting to intensified cooperation against terrorism and cross-bordersecurity threats.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Interior, comes against the backdropof persistent terrorist incidents targeting Chinese nationals and projectslinked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Both sides expressedgrave concern over the evolving security landscape and agreed to strengthenintelligence sharing, joint training exercises, and coordinated operationsto neutralise militant networks operating along the shared border regions.

Minister Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to ensure foolproofsecurity for Chinese citizens, investments, and flagship initiatives underthe Belt and Road framework. He informed the ambassador that additionalcontingents of the Special Security Division had been deployed in sensitiveareas and that a high-level apex committee mechanism was being revitalisedto address Beijing’s concerns promptly.

Ambassador Jiang appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices in combatingterrorism, describing the recent measures as concrete manifestations of the“all-weather” strategic cooperative partnership. He conveyed China’sreadiness to expand technical assistance, including advanced surveillancesystems and capacity-building programmes for Pakistani law-enforcementagencies.

Analysts view the meeting as a timely diplomatic effort to restoreconfidence among Chinese investors, whose projects have faced repeateddisruptions due to attacks claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army andthe Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. The renewed commitment is expected toaccelerate stalled CPEC phases and reinforce bilateral trust at a time whenregional terrorism remains a principal challenge.

Both leaders described the discussions as highly productive and resolved tomaintain close consultation at all levels to safeguard mutual interests.
