More Resignations likely from Higher Judiciary in Pakistan

LAHORE: Additional resignations are expected in the coming days, claimedPunjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan. He has said that the ongoingtensions within the judiciary appear to be driven by “a contest to becomethe next Chief Justice.”

Addressing an event in Lahore, Malik Ahmad Khan criticized what hedescribed as repeated attempts to curtail the powers of Parliament throughjudicial decisions. He said such interventions had forced Parliament toremain cautious even when speaking about its constitutional rights.

“Parliament’s authority was repeatedly limited through judicial overreach,and this must change now,” he said, stressing that institutional balancemust be restored.

The Speaker further suggested that developments within the judiciary arefar from over. A few judges from the Lahore High Court and Peshawar HighCourt may also come forward in the next few days, potentially adding to thewave of resignations and internal disputes already making headlines.

Political observers note that Khan’s remarks come at a time of heighteneddebate over judicial reforms and increasing scrutiny of internal riftswithin Pakistan’s superior courts.
