Pakistan, Russia Hold First-Ever Consultations on Asian Security inIslamabad
Islamabad — Pakistan and Russia on Thursday held their inauguralconsultations on security issues in Asia, marking a significant step indeepening strategic dialogue between the two countries amid shiftingregional dynamics.
The discussions were led by Aleksei Ovchinnikov, Director General for Asiaand Pacific Cooperation at the Russian Foreign Ministry, who met AdditionalForeign Secretary and Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi. Both sidesheld extensive exchanges on evolving regional security trends, emerginggeopolitical alignments, and prospects for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Ovchinnikov also met Additional Foreign Secretary (Asia Pacific) ImranSiddiqui and Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General of the Instituteof Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), during which broader regionaldevelopments and long-term strategic cooperation were reviewed.
In an official statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan places highvalue on its cooperative ties with Russia and remains committed todialogue-driven approaches aimed at strengthening peace and stability inthe wider Asian region.
The consultations reflect growing institutional engagement betweenIslamabad and Moscow, who have gradually expanded cooperation acrossdefense, energy, counterterrorism, and multilateral diplomacy over recentyears. Both sides reaffirmed their intent to continue structured dialoguesto address shared security challenges and explore new avenues ofpartnership.
The next round of consultations will be scheduled through diplomaticchannels.
