Sukhoi Su-30MKI Fighter Jet Crashes in Russia, Both Pilots Killed: Russian MoD

Karelia, Russia – November 13, 2025:A Russian Air Force Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet has crashed in the Republic ofKarelia, resulting in the deaths of both crew members onboard, the RussianMinistry of Defence (MoD) confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.

According to the MoD, the aircraft went down during a scheduled trainingflight. Preliminary reports suggest that the jet was operating without liveammunition and that the crash occurred in an uninhabited area, minimizingcollateral damage.

“On November 13, during a routine training sortie in the Republic ofKarelia, a Su-30 aircraft crashed. Both pilots were killed,” the ministrysaid, adding that search and rescue teams had promptly reached the crashsite.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.While initial reports indicate a possible technical malfunction,authorities have not ruled out other factors, including weather conditionsor human error.

The Sukhoi Su-30 is a twin-engine, multirole air superiority fighterdeveloped by Russia’s Sukhoi Aviation Corporation. It is one of themainstay aircraft of the Russian Air Force and has been widely exportedaround the world.
