KABUL — The Deputy Minister of Interior of Afghanistan, Alhaj Maulvi SahibRahmatullah Najib, has said that recent talks between Afghan and Pakistaniofficials ended without any positive outcome due to disagreements overcounter-terrorism issues and border security.

Speaking about the discussions, Najib stated that the Afghan delegation hadurged the Pakistani side to take action against Daesh (ISIS) centers andleaders operating inside Pakistan. “We showed them their locations andasked them to eliminate these centers,” he said.

According to Najib, the Afghan government also requested Pakistan torespect Afghan airspace. “We told them that if you cannot stop Americanplanes, at least do not send your own planes into Afghan territory,” heremarked.

However, Najib said the Pakistani side rejected these “simple andlegitimate proposals,” while presenting what he described as “completelyillegitimate demands” to the Afghan delegation.

The Deputy Minister added that due to these differences, the negotiationsended without any agreement or progress.

Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have escalated in recent months overcross-border security, drone strikes, and mutual accusations of harboringmilitant groups.
