Afghan Taliban Makes Big Offer to Pakistan Over TTP

KABUL — Rahmatullah Najib, Deputy Minister of Interior of the AfghanTaliban and a member of the Taliban’s delegation in recent talks withPakistan held in Istanbul, has said that the Taliban could consideraccepting the transfer of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) members toAfghanistan — but only if Pakistan declares them “good people.”

Najib stated that if the Pakistani government labels TTP members asterrorists, then transferring them to Afghanistan would not be possible.“If Pakistan calls them good people, we can consider taking them. But ifthey call them terrorists, how can we?” Najib said.

He further revealed that during the Istanbul talks, the Pakistanidelegation asked the Taliban to issue a Fatwa, signed by the Taliban’ssupreme leader Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, declaring the ongoingconflict in Pakistan as unlawful.

According to Najib, the Afghan Taliban agreed “in principle” to the idea ofa Fatwa but clarified that such religious rulings are issued by the DarulIfta, the Taliban’s official Islamic legal authority. “This is not adecision for Mullah Haibatullah alone,” Najib explained. “The Darul Iftawill issue any Fatwa based on Sharia law, not on anyone’s wishes.”

The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and the TTP, asIslamabad continues to pressure the Afghan Taliban to take concrete stepsagainst the militant group operating from Afghan soil.
