Dhaka Roars for Islamabad: Bangladesh Tells Taliban ‘Pakistan Has Every Right to Strike Back

Dhaka-In a significant diplomatic signal, the government of Dhaka haspublicly affirmed that neighbouring Islamabad has every right to retaliateagainst cross-border militant attacks, and urged the Taliban regime inAfghanistan to take swift action to prevent its territory being usedagainst Pakistan.

In its statement issued on Tuesday, Bangladesh’s foreign ministry expressed“full sympathy” with Islamabad’s security concerns and reiterated thatPakistan cannot tolerate militants operating from abroad. The move comesamid growing tensions in South Asia following allegations by Pakistan thatmilitant groups sheltered in Afghanistan are mounting attacks against itsmilitary and civilian targets.

Pakistan has in recent weeks heightened pressure on Kabul to rein in theTehrik‑e‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other anti-Pakistani insurgentsoperating in Afghan border zones. Analysts say Islamabad may be gearing upfor a more assertive response if the Taliban government fails to controlthese bases.

Bangladesh’s backing of Pakistan’s right to “strike back” reflects a subtleshift in Dhaka’s regional posture, despite its historically cautiousengagement in bilateral security dynamics. While Dhaka reaffirmed supportfor peaceful resolution and respect for regional sovereignty, it made clearthat unaddressed militant activity poses a threat to broader South Asianstability.

The Bangladesh government also called upon all parties to engage indialogue and implement existing agreements to avoid further escalationalong the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Lastly, Dhaka said it stands ready to support regional efforts to ensurepeace and security, but stressed that those who harbour militants willultimately undermine the peace they claim to build.
