An explosion was reported in the Afghan capital, Kabul, late on Thursdaynight, sparking concern among residents and prompting a swift response fromsecurity forces.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred in the vicinity of AbdulHaq Square, where a Land Cruiser vehicle was reportedly struck. Whilethe exact cause of the explosion remains unclear, multiple sourcesconfirmed that the blast was powerful enough to be heard across severalparts of the city.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid addressed the situation on socialmedia platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“The sound of an explosion was heard in the city of Kabul. However, no oneshould worry, it is all well and good. The investigation of the incident isunderway, and no report of any damage has been given so far.”
Reporters from Agence France-Presse (AFP) said that two separateexplosions were heard around 9:50 p.m. local time (10:20 p.m. PKT).Following the blasts, a heavy security presence was observed in the area,with authorities setting up checkpoints and searching vehicles acrossnearby streets.
Witnesses also reported disruptions in mobile network services acrossseveral neighborhoods, adding to public anxiety as the cause of theexplosions continues to be investigated.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident, and officials haveyet to confirm whether it was a targeted attack or an accidentaldetonation. Security forces have cordoned off the affected area as theinvestigation continues.
