Epicentre in Hindu Kush mountains; no reports of casualties or damage so far
Article:Tremors from a 5.3-magnitude earthquake were felt in Peshawar and Islamabadon Wednesday evening, according to a press release issued by the PakistanMeteorological Department’s (PMD) Seismic Network. Fortunately, nocasualties or damage have been reported.
The PMD confirmed that the quake struck at 6:27pm, with a depth of 110kilometres and its epicentre located in the Hindu Kush mountains ofAfghanistan.
Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) also recorded theearthquake in northeast Afghanistan, close to the Pakistan border, about 35kilometres south of Eshkashem. However, its data placed the magnitude at5.1 and the depth at 128 kilometres.
Earthquakes are frequent in the Hindu Kush region due to its complextectonic activity, and tremors are often felt across northern Pakistan.Authorities have advised residents to remain calm and follow safetyprotocols in the event of earthquake.
