China and Pakistan have agreed to accelerate collaboration on defencetechnologies and joint projects as Beijing’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, arrivedin Islamabad on an official visit.
According to diplomatic sources, the two sides are holding high-level talksaimed at strengthening military-to-military cooperation, advancing defenceindustrial projects, and enhancing strategic coordination under theframework of the China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic CooperativePartnership.
Wang Yi, who is China’s Foreign Minister and State Councilor, is expectedto meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General AsimMunir, and other senior officials. Discussions will reportedly coverdefence technology transfer, joint research, and the expansion of ongoingprojects in aerospace, naval modernization, and cyber defence.
Officials say the move to fast-track defence cooperation comes amidshifting regional dynamics and growing security challenges in South Asia.Both nations are also expected to reaffirm their commitment to theChina-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which includes strategicinfrastructure with dual-use potential.
The visit is seen as part of broader efforts by Islamabad and Beijing todeepen their security and economic partnership. Analysts suggest thatcloser defence cooperation will not only boost Pakistan’s indigenouscapabilities but also further cement the longstanding bilateralrelationship.
A joint statement is expected to be issued at the conclusion of the visit,outlining new agreements and mechanisms for future defence collaboration.
