KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to launch a swift and ruthless operation against dacoits in the Katcha region, with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah vowing that law and order will be restored at all costs.
The decision was made in a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, attended by Corps Commander Five Lieutenant General Muhammad Dastgir, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Home Minister Zia Lanjar, DG Rangers Major General Muhammad Shamreez, IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, and other senior officials.
Murad Ali Shah said no incident of kidnapping for ransom would be tolerated, stressing that the government’s primary objective is the complete elimination of dacoits. “The joint operation by police and Rangers has been ongoing since 2024, but now it must be intensified and ruthless,” he said, adding that those who surrender their weapons would be given leniency.
To ensure strict monitoring, a high-level committee led by the Home Minister has been established, alongside another committee tasked with overseeing implementation of the operation. The Chief Minister was briefed on the progress of the campaign, with officials noting that police have been equipped with modern weapons and technology, which has already delivered significant results.
The Sindh government has also decided to involve the Punjab government in the operation. Authorities confirmed that development projects would follow in the region, including the construction of road networks, as well as the provision of healthcare and education facilities.
As part of the crackdown, internet services in the Katcha region will be temporarily suspended, and the social media accounts of the bandits will be blocked. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to enhance coordination to ensure success.
The performance of police, Rangers, and other agencies in the Katcha operation was praised during the meeting.
