PAF Acquires  Advances Electronic Warfare Capability with Bombardier Global 6000 Conversion

*Islamabad, Pakistan — [Date: August 19, 2025]*

In a bold modernization move, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is set totransform its sole Bombardier Global 6000 into a next-generation ElectronicWarfare (EW) platform, reportedly capable of engaging hostile aircraft andmissile systems at ranges beyond 500 km.EW Transformation in Collaboration with Turkey

PAF has partnered with Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) to convert theGlobal 6000 into a stand-off jamming (SOJ) aircraft, marking a significantupgrade to Pakistan’s airborne EW capabilities (Indian Defence Newslink,Defense Newslink). This initiative, first indicated in PAF’s “Second-to-None” calendar andlater confirmed through multiple reports, positions the platform as astrategic asset for deep-strike EW operations.

The converted aircraft is intended to perform three core EW roles:

*Radar jamming*: intercepting and retransmitting enemy radar frequencies via transceivers with Digital Radar Frequency Memory (DRFM) systems to disrupt enemy radar systems. –

*Communications jamming*: interfering with airborne and ground communication networks. –

*Electronic Intelligence (ELINT)*: capturing and cataloging enemy radar and communications data into a “threat library” to inform future encryption and countermeasure operations

Potential EW Suite: Aselsan HAVA-SOJ

It is speculated that the EW suite may be based on the Aselsan *HAVA-SOJ*system currently used by TAI for Global 6000 conversions for the TurkishAir Force. The HAVA-SOJ system integrates advanced radar and communicationjamming along with ELINT functionalityStrategic Timing and Scope

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed during President Erdoğan’svisit to Pakistan in February 2025, formalizing Pakistan’s collaborationwith Turkey on the Airborne Stand-Off Jammer (A-SOJ) program. The MoU setsthe groundwork for Pakistan’s first SOJ delivery, tentatively scheduledbetween 2026 and 2027, leveraging Turkey’s HAVA-SOJ expertise.

According to PAF records and corroborated defense summaries, the Global6000 was acquired in 2022 in a business-jet configuration and is nowofficially being repurposed into an EW, ESM (Electronic Support Measures),and ECM (Electronic Countermeasures) platform.Modernization in Regional Context

This development reflects Pakistan’s strategic pivot toward improvedconventional deterrence following heightened regional tensions. The moveaddresses evolving threats, including advanced Indian platforms such as theTejas MK-1A (with AESA radar and EW capabilities), Dassault Rafale, upgraded Su-30MKI, and expanded surface-to-air missile (SAM) networks (EURASIANTIMESlink,Business Upturnlink).Previous operations such as *Swift Retort* and the 2019 Balakot responsehighlighted the operational gap in EW and stand-off capabilities, promptingthis capability upgrade——————————Summary TableFeature Details*Platform* Bombardier Global 6000 (PAF acquired in 2022)*Conversion Partner* Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), possibly withAselsan’s HAVA-SOJ suite*EW Capabilities* Radar jamming (with DRFM), communications jamming, ELINT*Delivery Timeline* Expected between 2026–2027 under MoU signed Feb 2025*Strategic Purpose* Counter advanced regional threats; support deep-rangeEW operations——————————
