Speaking in an interview with a foreign television channel, US Secretary ofState *Marco Rubio* said that Washington is closely monitoring thesituation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors on a daily basis.
“Maintaining a ceasefire is always a difficult process, and unfortunately,it often breaks down quickly,” Secretary Rubio stated. “We are observingdevelopments between Pakistan and India every single day to assess how theceasefire is holding up.”
His remarks come at a time when President *Donald Trump* has made multiplestatements in the past regarding ceasefire efforts and the importance ofde-escalation in South Asia.
Meanwhile, the Indian government appeared uneasy over Washington’sinvolvement in the matter. In an attempt to avoid embarrassment, New Delhidownplayed the US role in maintaining the ceasefire.
Addressing the Indian Parliament, Prime Minister *Narendra Modi* claimedthat “no foreign leader has asked India to stop ‘Operation Sandur’,” astatement that analysts believe was aimed at dismissing American influenceand calming domestic political pressure.
