Pakistan Faced Pressure to Halt Strikes on India After Downing Rafale Jets in May Clashes: Report

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed that Pakistan came underinternational pressure not to escalate hostilities after downing Indianaircraft during the May clashes with India. He said the country was urgedto refrain from launching further counterattacks, despite having thecapability to inflict greater damage.

Speaking about the conflict, Naqvi emphasized that Pakistan’s intelligenceservices had already secured access to the enemy’s full operationalplanning during the battle. “Whatever plan India made, we received timelyinformation about it,” he noted, adding that this intelligence edgeprevented major losses at key air bases.

The minister said no Indian missile struck Pakistan’s bases holdingcritical assets. Even during the strike on Nur Khan Air Base, there was nodamage. “Only one of our bases suffered losses from Indian fire, where someof our soldiers were also martyred,” he recalled, stressing his role as aneyewitness to many events of the war.

Naqvi strongly defended the role of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies,saying that despite frequent criticism from some individuals, their workduring the conflict was “outstanding.” He testified that Army Chief FieldMarshal Asim Munir provided “remarkable leadership” throughout the crisis.“We could have caused even greater damage to India, but the losses theysuffered were already unbearable for them,” he remarked.

International media have also underscored the growing influence ofPakistan’s military leadership. According to *Bloomberg*, Asim Munir isregarded in Washington as one of the most powerful figures, while *FinancialTimes* reported that the U.S. views him as a strategic mediator in theregion.

Naqvi criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s close aides, AjitDoval and Amit Shah, branding them as “characters of the Pahalgam drama”who, he claimed, would ultimately ruin India. He also recalled how, duringthe war, Pakistan’s political parties stood united, while India used thepost-9/11 “War on Terror” to intensify its suppression of Kashmiris.
