Former Indian cricketer Krisen Ghavri has made a major revelation regarding Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket.
The two prominent Indian cricketers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, shocked the cricketing world by suddenly announcing their retirement from Test cricket in May 2025. Both had made this decision following poor performances against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, former cricketer Krisen Ghavri has now presented an entirely new perspective on the matter.
Ghavri revealed that Virat and Rohit actually wanted to continue playing Test cricket, but internal politics within the BCCI forced them to retire. He stated that Virat Kohli could comfortably have played for India for another two years, but certain circumstances pushed him to step down.
He also expressed regret that the BCCI did not even grant them a proper farewell match.
“Such great players deserved a magnificent and befitting farewell,” Ghavri said. He added that this decision was the result of “minor politics” by the selection committee and the BCCI, and neither Virat nor Rohit wanted to leave cricket on their own terms.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that both players may soon retire from ODI cricket as well, which would leave their dream of playing in the 2027 World Cup unfulfilled.
The 36-year-old Virat Kohli scored 14,181 runs in 302 One Day Internationals at an average of 57.88, including 51 centuries and 74 half-centuries, with a highest score of 183. The 38-year-old Rohit Sharma scored 11,168 runs in 272 matches at an average of 48.76, including 32 centuries and 59 half-centuries, with a highest score of 264.
