ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday issued its latest One-Day International (ODI) batting rankings, marking a rare setback for Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam, who has slipped to third place. This is the first time since 2020 that he has fallen outside the top two.
Babar endured a tough series against the West Indies, where he failed to register a single half-century. His highest score was 47 in the opening game at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, followed by dismissals for a duck and nine runs in the subsequent matches.
Meanwhile, India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma climbed to second place despite not featuring in recent matches, pushing Babar down the rankings.
The new update also brought further disappointment for Pakistan in the T20I charts, as no Pakistani batter managed to secure a top spot. Indian players dominated the format, with Abhishek Sharma taking the number one position, while India continued to lead the ODI team rankings with 124 points from 36 matches.
