*WASHINGTON:* The United States played a decisive role in defusing recenttensions between Pakistan and India, preventing what officials described asa “potential catastrophe,” State Department spokeswoman Tammy Brucerevealed on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press briefing, Bruce said that top US leadership — includingthe President, Vice President, and Secretary of State — acted swiftly whenhostilities escalated between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
“There was immediate concern and immediate movement,” Bruce explained,detailing urgent phone calls and diplomatic efforts that helped haltfurther attacks and bring both sides back to the table. She termed the move“a proud moment” for Washington and an example of its commitment to peacein South Asia.
Bruce also stressed that US relations with both Islamabad and New Delhiremain “good,” highlighting the President’s personal outreach to theleaders of both countries. In a separate development, Pakistan and the United States on Tuesdayreaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorism “in all its forms andmanifestations.”
A joint statement issued after the Pakistan-US Counter-Terrorism Dialogueunderscored the importance of developing effective strategies to addressthreats from groups such as the *Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA)*,*ISIS-Khorasan*, and *Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)*.
Both delegations emphasized the significance of “sustained and structuredengagement” in countering terrorism and promoting peace and stability inthe region.
