Uri, Occupied Jammu & Kashmir – Kashmiri resistance fighters launched a daring nighttime operation against Indian occupation forces in the Uri sector late on August 12, leaving one Indian soldier dead and at least three others wounded, two of them critically.
According to local reports, the encounter broke out when Indian troops attempted to block the movement of freedom fighters across the heavily militarised Line of Control (LoC). The fighters engaged in a prolonged exchange of fire, reportedly inflicting heavy losses on the Indian side without suffering any casualties themselves.
Indian media reluctantly confirmed the death of Havildar Ankit Kumar, with the Indian Army scrambling to portray the event as an “infiltration attempt foiled” to downplay the successful strike by the resistance. The attack has further exposed the vulnerability of Indian forward positions in the disputed territory.
The Uri sector — a long-standing flashpoint in the struggle for Kashmir’s freedom — has witnessed an uptick in resistance operations in recent weeks. This latest strike comes just days before India’s Independence Day, sending a symbolic message from Kashmiri fighters that the occupation remains firmly opposed on the ground.
Since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, Indian forces have faced sustained armed and unarmed resistance across Occupied Kashmir. Despite a massive troop presence, New Delhi has been unable to quell the movement for self-determination, with local fighters continuing to carry out targeted attacks against the occupation army.
