Imran Khan gets some unexpected relief from Supreme Court

***Supreme Court issues notice to Punjab government on eight appeals***

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi has raised questions over theLahore High Court’s decision to dismiss bail petitions filed by the founderof Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Supreme Court, while hearing eight appeals filed by the PTI founder,issued a notice to the Punjab government and directed the prosecutiondepartment to prepare arguments on the legal questions involved.

The case was heard by a three-member bench headed by CJP Yahya Afridi, withJustice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb as members.

During the brief proceedings, the CJP expressed reservations over theLahore High Court’s approach, asking how the court could comment on themain merits of the case while deciding bail petitions. The Chief Justiceremarked that the court’s role at the bail stage is limited, and directedlawyers to assist the apex court on this specific legal point.
