Finally Some Good News for Former PM Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled the hearing of bail pleas filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in connection with the May 9 riots for August 12.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and comprising Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, will preside over the proceedings. The Registrar’s Office has issued the cause list for eight appeals and formally notified Khan’s legal team.

Previously, the apex court had adjourned the matter to August 12 after Imran Khan’s counsel, Salman Safdar, sought a later date. During earlier proceedings, senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja requested the court to schedule the hearing sooner and issue notices, but the request was denied.

Imran Khan has challenged the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) rejection of his post-arrest bail in eight cases tied to the May 9 unrest, including the attacks on Jinnah House, Askari Tower, and the Shadman Police Station arson.

In his appeal, the PTI founder maintains that the allegations are unfounded, asserting he was in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) custody in Islamabad at the time, making his involvement impossible.

The LHC division bench, led by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, had earlier dismissed all eight bail petitions, prompting Khan to seek relief from the Supreme Court.
