Militant Drone Strike Kills FC Soldier in Bannu, Three Injured

In another militant drone strike, a Frontier Corps (FC) soldier was martyred and three others injured when explosives were dropped on a security checkpost in the Takhti Khel Bakakhel area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, police reported on Friday.

District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kulachi said the attack was carried out with a quadcopter drone, which released explosives onto the FC post. The blast killed one soldier and wounded three others, who were later shifted to a nearby hospital.

Following the incident, FC and KP police launched a joint search operation to track down the perpetrators. Authorities also imposed an indefinite curfew in the Havid area of Bannu district as security forces initiated a large-scale operation based on intelligence reports confirming the presence of armed militants.

Residents have been instructed to stay indoors from 5 a.m. until further notice. The DPO warned that anyone found aiding or sheltering terrorists would face strict legal consequences.

Security officials noted that militants have increasingly used drones to target security forces and public areas in southern KP, particularly Bannu. Before acquiring drones, militants used advanced thermal imaging guns—believed to have entered Pakistan from Afghanistan after NATO’s withdrawal—to attack security personnel under cover of darkness.

Just last month, the KP police procured a state-of-the-art anti-drone system to strengthen counterterrorism efforts. The system is capable of detecting and disabling unauthorized drones from a significant distance and is being deployed to protect key government facilities, public figures, and major events.
