KARACHI: The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has released fresh crime statistics for Karachi for the month of July 2025, painting a grim picture of street crime and violence in the metropolis, ARY News reported on Thursday.
According to the data, 22 cars were snatched and another 197 stolen from different areas across the city. Motorcycle theft remained rampant, with 502 bikes snatched at gunpoint and 3,357 reported stolen.
Street crime also continued its upward trend, as 1,603 mobile phones were forcibly taken from citizens during the same month.
In addition to property crime, CPLC confirmed the registration of one kidnapping-for-ransom case and five extortion incidents in July. Violence also remained a concern, with at least 52 people killed in shootings throughout the month.
This follows an earlier CPLC report that documented 22,627 criminal incidents in Karachi during the first quarter of 2024 (January–March). During that period, 59 citizens were killed while resisting robbery, and over 700 others were injured.
Between January and March 2024, the city recorded the snatching or theft of 373 cars, 15,968 motorcycles, and 6,102 mobile phones. Additionally, 25 extortion cases and five kidnappings for ransom were reported.
Overall, the first three months of 2024 saw 154 people lose their lives in various violent incidents across the city, underlining persistent concerns over law and order in Karachi.
