Major Among Three Soldiers Martyred in Nushki IED Blast

NUSHKI, BALOCHISTAN: In a premeditated attack late on August 5, an improvised explosive device (IED) struck the bulletproof vehicle of Major Rizwan near Kardgap in Nushki district, killing three Pakistani army personnel and injuring three others.

Major Rizwan, Naib Subedar Ameen, and Lance Naik Younas were martyred in the blast, while soldiers Hassan, Sepoy Hamid, and Lance Naik Fazal sustained serious injuries and were evacuated for treatment.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the operation was “intelligence-based”—conducted using a remote-controlled IED triggered based on intelligence from the group’s “ZIRAB” wing.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, although no official statement has yet been issued by the Pakistan Army.

This attack continues a troubling pattern in Balochistan, where several senior military officers have been targeted over recent weeks. Notable among these were Major Syed Rabnawaz Tariq in Awaran, Major Anwar Kakar in Quetta, and Major Zaid Saleem in Mastung—all killed in separate incidents involving BLA or BLF factions. Observers note that the growing precision of such attacks signals an escalation in operational and intelligence capability among insurgent groups in the region.
